We were speaking of fools, over coffees and blackberry cobbler. Six stooges, we were.
A friend of mine quoted Mark Twain tonight, saying….
“It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.”
Ahhhh, but fools all are we. And if we weren’t dolts and galoots…… from time to time…. we’d wouldn’t have much to laugh about.
Heck… there would be no “Avocado Sandwiches at the Speedway.”
And, we would never go “Chubby Dipping” in our swimming pool.
Someone once said to me…. “I’m not laughing with you, I’m laughing without you.” And so it goes.
Yes, we are constantly on the very edge of the brilliant and profound, in all our foolishness.
As Dan Quayle once so aptly stated…..
“If you give a person a fish, they’ll fish for a day. But if you train a person to fish, they’ll fish for a lifetime.”
Oh those wise words to live by. It gives me the goosebumps, or…. or maybe the cramps and a headache.
So, tonight I’ll keep my mouth shut….. just appearing to be stupid.
And, since I don’t like to fish… I’ll just take the one…. …. ….quietly…. and be on my way.
