That is Espanol, for “one more”…. and since this is a Spanish style doorstep, which originated in design in the early 1700s…. well……. During this era, the Spaniards would sail up the coast from Florida, and make hearty attempts at invading this part of the world. They were still trying to claim this territory from the Brits. But back to the design of the step: the rounded edges signified or exemplified the ornamental arches that are found in many of the villas in Spain still today.
